Catch Up

August has been a crazy month. Between trying to finish this book, and traveling out of town in short spurts to work on this personal project of mine I've been barely keeping up. Here is the latest scoop.

Remember to go to my website www.LASexTherapist.com to subscribe to my newsletter.

Break Out of Your Comfort Zone
Comfort is a place where most couples want to get and feel good about getting to, a place where most people would agree is what a wonderful long term relationship is all about.
But, what happens when comfort lends it's way to laziness, procrastination, taking our partners for granted, and resting on our laurels?
Read my thoughts on breaking out of our patterns of comfort  here.

Temples and Brothels:

A Sex Positive Journey

My theory and focus of work comes from a sex positive view point. What that means is that I celebrate sex. I encourage open, honest expressions about sex, and sexuality. I embrace fluidity, change, ebbs and flows. And, consensual between adults, is key.

More recently I have embarked on a more in depth look at sex and it's various practices, many of which are shunned by society. I have teamed up with a crew of other sex positive people, Darvo Hi Films and Overlooked Productions, and we are working towards making a sex positive documentary film. The goal being to expose and enlighten, through immersion, the various practices of sex, sexuality, and gender in different regions.

The project is called Temples and Brothels. It is a sex positive film. You can read the blog Here. You can friend us on Facebook orTwitter. You can donate. Your contribution is key to helping us spread, through immersion and exposure the humanity of life through sexuality.

Sexual Attitude Reassessment

I am at a weekend intensive workshop called a SAR or Sexual Attitude Reassessment with Dr. Patti Britton, in Culver City, it's a 20 - hour experiential workshop that provides participants with the opportunity to examine their sexual values and attitudes in a confidential setting.  This include a trip to Dr. Suzy block's Sex Emporium in downtown LA.  Lots of life changing stuff.

I'm posting some up to the minute info and tidbits from the workshop at Twitter: @MoushumiG_MFT

Androgyny Love

On my interview yesterday on Lou Paget's radio show, Sex Talk with Lou, not only did I totally out myself regarding my sexual history, but was open about my philosophies about open/alternative relationships, my obsession with androgyny and rock 'n roll and the reasons I started my own psychotherapy practice. Listen here.

Life in the Big City...

When you live in a major city like Los Angeles, you are more likely to be exposed to a plethora of differences. I love diversity and embracing of differences in people. It's what makes the world an interesting and colorful place. I also love variety.  This is why, despite the smog and traffic I have chosen to call such a large place Los Angeles, my home. To be surrounded by color, and life.

I used to call San Francisco home.  Talk about diverse. San Francisco is the home of the free and the brave.  I miss it terribly, but luckily I visit often. It's definitely a city that reveres difference above sameness.  What a breath of fresh air (literally and figuratively...)!!

My point is that for over 20 years I have been living amongst the people, the color, the diversity, the life. And open minds and ideas. Confinement to ideologies which no longer suit us, also limits our ability to move freely around the cabin. I like to encourage people to think outside of the box, outside of their own particular box, even if just for one minute, one hour, one day. An open heart and mind is the first step to living an honest genuine life with yourself.

Alternative lifestyles live and breed in the big cities, which is another reason I embrace living here. I think it's healthy to recognize that these lifestyles exist as an option for people, as an honest and viable option, that although may be difficult for many to embrace, do exist because they do have a place in the heart of humanity. Not to be judged, if it's not for you. It's okay too. Choice is beautiful.  And, there is a time and a place for everything. It's okay to change with the tides of the wind.

Here's the article I wrote for Good Therapy, "Exploring Alternative Lifestyles in Your Relationship. " Enjoy!
