When you live in a major city like Los Angeles, you are more likely to be exposed to a plethora of differences. I love diversity and embracing of differences in people. It's what makes the world an interesting and colorful place. I also love variety. This is why, despite the smog and traffic I have chosen to call such a large place Los Angeles, my home. To be surrounded by color, and life.
I used to call San Francisco home. Talk about diverse. San Francisco is the home of the free and the brave. I miss it terribly, but luckily I visit often. It's definitely a city that reveres difference above sameness. What a breath of fresh air (literally and figuratively...)!!
My point is that for over 20 years I have been living amongst the people, the color, the diversity, the life. And open minds and ideas. Confinement to ideologies which no longer suit us, also limits our ability to move freely around the cabin. I like to encourage people to think outside of the box, outside of their own particular box, even if just for one minute, one hour, one day. An open heart and mind is the first step to living an honest genuine life with yourself.
Alternative lifestyles live and breed in the big cities, which is another reason I embrace living here. I think it's healthy to recognize that these lifestyles exist as an option for people, as an honest and viable option, that although may be difficult for many to embrace, do exist because they do have a place in the heart of humanity. Not to be judged, if it's not for you. It's okay too. Choice is beautiful. And, there is a time and a place for everything. It's okay to change with the tides of the wind.
Here's the article I wrote for Good Therapy, "Exploring Alternative Lifestyles in Your Relationship. " Enjoy!
